ue to my nomadic way of life, I was never able to show the range of my work to anyone. Many people knew me as a portrait artist while many others knew me only for my Still-Lifes or my Mannequin paintings. This was very frustrating for me and , as I became more successful and could afford it, I decided to try and publish a definitive catalogue of my work which I could offer as a signed and numbered Limited Edition to my collectors and hopefully to a whole new group of people who could thus come to know all my work. I also felt it would give me the credibility I lacked by not having held exhibitions. Since I have never sold into any museums ( which collectors seem to think is important) I decided to list the names of my collectors in the back of this book, so they could see who else had shown faith enough in my work to buy it.
As sometimes happens in life, when you really need something, you are given it, and in this case the top book designer of South-East Asia , Leonard Lueras, who lived in Bali as I did at the time, was brought to my house just when I was ready to embark on this project. (And in the same magical way, just as my wife Fanny and I were considering setting up our own websites, I met Mike Hannon - the best - and voila, I hope you will agree, it is a beautifully set up website. Mike Hannon is that good...as Leonard proved to be, having made a beautiful job of the book "A.Christian" . We worked on it together daily for six months and it was finally published on October 24 1991 (which, unknown to Leonard , happened to be my birthday). I had also met a publisher who fell in love with my work, and who offered to publish it . His company, Emphasis, is based in Hong Kong and Tokyo and so it was published simultaneously in those places. I then travelled the world with this book, and it did indeed fulfil all my aspirations. I sold several hundred copies and , more important, sold many of the works shown in the book by virtue of people falling in love with them through seeing them in the book.
"A. Christian" is a signed and numbered Limited Edition. It has 268 pages of magnificent full colour reproductions of my drawings and paintings, divided up into categories as is this website, to make it easier for people to find and concentrate on the category that particularly appeals to them. It has a lot of biographical details and a list of all my collectors up to 1991, as well as a few notes by myself on attitudes to various subject. Each work has a small story of its history accompanying it. The book sells at U.S. $300, or �200 sterling. It is available only through myself and is an edition of 1500, of which only 500 copies remain. It is hoped that through this website, we will find a publisher who might publish a new book on work done since 1991, particularly all the new Drawings and Surreal Compositions represented on this site.
